Inter-district Home Guards’sports meet held in Manipal

Manipal, Jan 8, 2016 : Speaking at the valedictory ceremony of Home Guards inter-district level sports meet here, Superintendent of Police Annamalai said Home Guards play a crucial role in supporting the police in times of emergencies.

Annamalai said Home Guards The SP said that the Home Guards comprises people from various disciplines and they are bonded together in their march towards maintaining law and order as subsidiary to the Police Department.

He said the Home Guards are out from the hierarchy and rigidity that exist in the Police Department as they are normal people in society. They render excellent service and work no less to any police personnel during emergencies. However, they have untimely working hours and are deprived of many facilities, including appropriate wages. They are disadvantaged of PF and other health insurance schemes, he added.

The SP said the government is working on providing better facilities to Home Guards. Udupi district has 350 Home Guards, he added. Uttara Kannada Home Guard’s team won the overall team championship.
