Mangaluru, Nov 20, 2016 : Former prime minister Indira Gandhi was an iron lady who had made the whole world look towards India, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
Addressing a convention "Congress Nadige Surajyada Kadege’ organised at Nehru Maidan on November 19, Saturday, Siddaramaiah said taking a cue from Indira Gandhi his government was also implementing several pro-poor schemes.
Launching a tirade against the BJP, he urged the Congressmen to be wary of the BJP which he said was trying to divide the society in the name of Hindutva.
Siddaramaiah announced on the occasion that interest free loans will be disbursed to women’s SHGs and that subsidy for milk producers will also be increased.
Home Minister G Parameshwar who also spoke, said Modi was wrecking the Indian economy which was built with great efforts by leaders like Indira Gandhi, Manmohan Singh and other prime ministers. He said the AICC would be holding year long programmes to mark Indira Gandhi birth centenary.
State Minister Dinesh Gundurao, District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai, former minister KH Muniappa and others were present.
A statue of Jawaharlal Nehru was unveiled by the Chief Minister at Nehru Maidan.
Senior leader B Janardhana Poojary who had recently vehemently criticised the Chief Minister was absent during the function.
