Mangaluru, March 19, 2020:   The Indian Welding Society (IWS), Mangaluru Centre was inaugurated on 16th March 2020 at Nitte Education International, Mangaluru by Sri. N Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor, Nitte Deemed to be University & President, Nitte Education Trust. In his inaugural address he stressed the need for venturing into newer areas of technology that could enhance employment opportunities and mentioned that mechanical engineering stream has to be restructured with newer technological inputs.

 

 

 

 

The office-bearers of the Centre have been selected for a term of two years with Dr. Shashikantha Karinka, Professor & Head, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, NMAMIT as the Chairman; Mr. M J Shetty, Managing Director, Lakshmi Cryogenics as Vice Chairman; Mr. Sudhir J Shetty, CEO, Varun Engineering Corporation as Secretary; Mr. Gajanan S Hegde, Dy. General Manager, Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd as Treasurer in addition to 9 Executive Council members. Currently, IWS has a national membership of over 3600 and 65 life members in the Mangaluru region.

After the inauguration, there was a day-long seminar on ‘Recent Trends in Welding’ by experts from IWS. 60 delegates attended this seminar.
The installation of office bearers of the Mangaluru Centre was performed by Mr. S. Prabhakaran, Vice President, IWS South Zone & General Manager, BHEL Trichy. Mr. N. Rajasekaran, Secretary, IWS Headquarters felicitated the newly installed office bearers and briefed about the different activities of IWS. Prof. S. Gopinath gave an overview of the history of the development of the Mangaluru Centre.

The program began with an invocation by Mr. Divijesh. Prof. Shashikantha Karinka welcomed the gathering; Prof. Muralidhara & Dr. Vijeesh Vijayan introduced the office bearers and Mr. Sudhir J Shetty delivered the vote of thanks. Mr. Melwyn Castelino was the master of the ceremony.
