September 3, 2018: The love connect between Bollywood and Cricket is not new. From Sharmila Tagore-Mansoor Khan Pataudi to Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, love stories between Bollywood divas and cricketers have been the talk of the town. And the latest to add to the bandwagon is the romance between Airlift actress Nimrat Kaur and Indian cricket team coach Ravi Shastri.
Sagarika Ghatge married Zaheer Khan despite a massive age difference while Geeta Basra and Hazel Keech are now wives to Harbhajan and Yuvraj Singh. But if reports are to be believed, India head coach Ravi Shastri and Nimrat Kaur could be the new couple on the block.
According to the Pune Mirror, the couple has been seeing each other for over a period of two years now and has managed to keep their relationship under the media radar. The duo has even been spotted together on multiple occasions in the past after they were roped in by a German luxury carmaker to launch its cars every year since 2015.
Despite their busy schedules, it is also reported that the two have been making time for each other. Shastri is currently with the national team in the UK for an ongoing Test series against England while Nimrat has been shooting for a popular web-series.
This isn’t the first time that Shastri has found love in a Bollywood actress. Back in the mid 80s, Shastri was bowled over by Amrita Singh. If he was a star at the cricket pitch, Amrita was making the right noise with her choice of films back then. Soon, the two met and romance blossomed between the two.
It was one of the most-talked about affairs of the 80s which came into the public eye after Amrita and Ravi posed together for a magazine cover.
The two made it official with their photoshoot. According to a report in India Today, after keeping their love affair under the wraps for a while, Ravi and Amrita got engaged in 1986. However, marriage was a distant dream for them. Shastri was quoted as saying, "I definitely don’t want an actress wife. I am chauvinistic. Her home should be her first priority." To which Amrita had replied, "At the moment I’m too involved in my career to give it up. But I’m sure after a couple of years, I will be ready to become a full-time wife and mother."
But their love story was short-lived. Amrita and Ravi called it off after a few years. In 1990, Ravi went onto marry Ritu, while Amrita tied the knot with Saif Ali Khan in 1991.
