Mangaluru, Apr 11, 2018: Speaking at the release of the first-day postal cover, Prof M P Pai, at the Head Post office in Pandeshwar, on April 10, Wednesday, MAHE former vice chancellor Dr B M Hegde said, “Humanity was the banner of KMC former professor Dr Mangalore Pandurang Pai, as he was the person who believed that an institution is not built with bricks and mortar, but men and women of good character,”
Recounting his encounters with Prof Pai at KMC, Dr Hegde said that Dr Pai was a great physician and people believed in his skills and manner. As the Head of Surgery Department at KMC, he was responsible for the opening of the first PG department. “He also became popular as a private practitioner. He was a forthright person, which made some people to consider him as rude. In reality, he was a very good human being,” he added.
Mangaluru KMC Dean Dr M Venkatraya Prabhu said that Prof Pai, in his autobiography ‘Mountain and the Sea’, has spoken about his association with Dr T M A Pai, the founder of KMC. Prof Pai played a pivotal role in the establishment of KMC Light House Hill Road and Attavar campuses.
Dr Pai was awarded the B C Roy award. “Remembering his contributions to the institution and in observance with his birth centenary, the Postal Department released the first-day cover,” he said.
Mangaluru KMC Urology Department Head Dr G G Lakshman Prabhu, the proponent of special cover, as a part of the Late Prof M P Pai birth centennial celebrations, was also present.
