Mangaluru, Mar 01, 2018: The beautified Surathkal flyover southern wing will be inaugurated on March 4.

Prof K Rajmohan Rao, convener of Nagarika Salaha Samithi, Surathkal, (an initiative of Mangaluru North Traffic Police) said on Wednesday, “The dead spaces created under the flyovers, dirtied by posters over the walls, were cleaned. The pillars were painted, interlocks were laid on the ground and a garden has been laid below the flyover. The decision to beautify the flyover was taken in September after obtaining permission from the NHAI.”

He said with the assistance from MLA Mohiuddin Bava, MRPL and Karnataka Bank, the work was started on October 2. It was Rotary Club Surathkal, HNGC, Agari Enterprises, City Developers, Guhan Associates extended their helping hand in laying a garden below the flyover.

Artists Ganesh Somayaji, Ananthapadmanabha, Dinesh Holla and others painted the flyover. The MRPL has helped in painting the pillars and art work. Karnataka Bank has sponsored for laying a pedestrian path below the flyover. Sriram Transport Finance has provided pure drinking water facility.

Further, he said that under the guidance of Ramakrishna Mission, the Samithi will take up cleanliness drive in Surathkal.

Although it is commendable that Ramakrishna Mission is undertaking cleanliness in Mangalore and now in Surathkal, The MCC is absolved of the responsibility of keeping the city clean. They even have a contractor who is paid handsome money to clean up the neighborhood. Shameful that MCC does nothing and NGOs have to chip in!
