Karkala, June 16,2016 : As many as 18 lorries which were transporting sand illegally to Chikkamagaluru district were seized in a midnight operation on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The operation was led by a police team led by Rural police inspector Rafiq.
Ever since Rafiq took charge as inspector a month ago, he has seized 55 sand lorries and collected a fine of Rs 5 lakhs. The drive against sand smuggling which had been suspended for some time reportedly owing to political interference had resumed of late.
It is already a known fact that sand was being illegally transported from Adduru, Gurupur, Polali, Kaikamba and other places and the speeding lorries have also been the cause of a number of accidents.

There so many such incidents taking place in the district . This sand smuggling operation has to go on. They do not ban with out any reason . The untimely extraction of sand effects the the aquatic creatures. | |

The time s not suitable for extraction as the fishes breed and it effect the coastal life. |
