Mangalore, July 5, 2013: Indian Medical Association (IMA) Mangalore Branch is pleased to announce that it shall be observing Doctor’s Day on Saturday, 6th July 2013 at Dr. A.V. Rao Conference Hall, IMA House, Mangalore at 8:30 p.m.

On the occasion, IMA Mangalore will felicitate three prominent members of the association on the basis of their professional excellence, service to IMA and service to society. The three nominees are: Dr. Ganesh S. Pai, Dr. M. Vijaykumar and Dr. Gayatri Ramani.

U.T. Khadar, Hon’ble Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of Karnataka has kindly consented to be the Chief Guest.

Though Doctors Day is observed on 1st of July, IMA Mangalore has scheduled its celebrations for 6th July in order to enable more doctors to participate during the weekend function.

Doctors to be honoured by IMA on the occasion of Doctor’s Day
Dr. GANESH S. PAI
Dr Ganesh S PaiDr. Ganesh S. Pai, MD., D.V.D., FAAD., is the Medical Director, DERMA-CARE, Skin and Cosmetology Centre and is a consultant in Dermatology and Cosmetic Care for the past 33 years in Mangalore. Derma Care is one of the largest integrated laser centres in India. Dr. Pai is a pioneer in the use of various lasers for pigment, skin rejuvenation, removal of moles, tattoos, freckles, wrinkles, acne, acne scars and hair removal.

He finished his Masters in Dermatology in 1981 and was professor at the Kasturba Medical College, Mangalore for 20 years.  He is presently Director, Professor & Head of Department of Dermatology at K.S. Hegde Medical College, Mangalore.  He was the National President of the Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists (IADV&L) in the year 2000.

At present he is a Fellow of American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD) and also a member of the European Academy of Dermatology (Fellow EADV) and member of Dermatologic & Aesthetic Surgery International League (DASIL). His special interests are in Phototherapy, Lasers and Dermatosurgery.

He has attended many international conferences and presented guest lectures on various lasers in Oman, Venice, Turkey, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Beijing, Florence, London, Melbourne, Sharjah, Bali, Paris, Prague, Vietnam, Nepal, San Francisco, Chicago, South Africa & Korea between the years 1999 & 2012.

 
Dr. M. VIJAYKUMAR
Dr M Vijay Kumar, MangaloreDr. M Vijaykumar, M.B.B.S, D.G.O, M.D Obstetrician and Gynecologist, is the Medical Director of J.S. Hospital Kotekar, a rural hospital mainly serving the village people.

Born and brought up in Mangalore, he did his M.B.B.S, D.G.O, and M.D, all from K.M.C Manipal and Mangalore. He was formerly an Assistant Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Yenepoya Medical College, Mangalore.

He is actively involved in the Social Welfare Activities, regularly conducting free medical camps and distribution of free medicines in the rural areas jointly with Sri Satya Sai Seva Organization, Mudipu.

Popular and Active in sports and drama, during his school and college days, he bagged the Gold Medal in the Inter Collegiate Weight Lifting Competition held at Davangere Medical College. He is also an active founder member of Lions Club of Mangalagangothri, Mangalore University. Regular Yoga classes are conducted on the top floor of his Hospital.

 
Dr GAYATRI RAMANI:
Dr Gayatri RamaniHailing from Tamil Nadu, Dr Gayatri Ramani, MBBS, MS was brought up and educated in north India. She settled down in Mangalore about 40 years ago when her husband Sri N. Venkatramani, a chemical engineer joined Mangalore Chemical & Fertilizer Ltd.

She had a brilliant academic career; she is a recipient of the prestigious Tata Jubilee Merit Scholarship and is a Gold Medalist in Pathology. She was awarded the President’s Medal in MBBS for being 1st among the women Medical Graduates of 1967 batch. She was also a recipient of CSIR Research Fellowship & Past doctoral Fellowship in Gynec-Oncology from Washington, USA.

She has worked for Father Muller Charitable Institutions as a consultant gynecologist for 30 years, where she was also a faculty member for 15 yrs. Later she retired from A.J Institute of Medical Science as Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology.

She is well versed in Carnatic music as well as North Indian classical music. She is interested in sports and games too.
