Mangalore, June 8, 2013 : The Dakshina Kannada unit of the International Christian Organisations’ Union (ICOU) has demanded setting up of a separate corporation for the development of the Christian Community.
The above demand was one among the several demands of the Union which were enlisted in a memorandum submitted by a delegation of the Union to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The delegation included KPCC Secretary Ivan D’Souza and Michael Lobo, Convenor of the Union, Cyril D’Souza, Errol Pinto, Marshal Monteiro and Praveen James Kumar.
The memorandum has also urged for allocation of Rs 200 crore in the next budget for the welfare of the Christian community.
The Chief Minister who accepted the memorandum assured to consider their demands.
The Union has also submitted copies of the memorandum to state ministers hailing from the coastal districts namely Ramanatha Rai, UT Khader, Abhayachandra Jain and Vinayakumar Sorake.
