Mangaluru, Jan 28, 2018: Members of various like-minded organisations will form a ‘human chain for harmony’ across the state on January 30 at 4 pm.

Sauhardathegagi Karnataka DK district committee convener Muneer Katipalla said that communal forces are attempting to disrupt peace in the Coastal district by converting coastal districts into a “laboratory” for its communal experiments. An attempt is being made to disrupt the fabric of the society by dividing the society on the lines of religion, he said.

“To uphold the principles of unity, solidarity and harmony, members of various organisations will form a human chain in the district, taluk and hobli centres at a time. Those who incite communal violence can never be our own people. The real descendants of Kannada tradition are neither communal nor extremists,” he said.

Stating that there is a need to uphold the principles of harmony against communalism and love against hate, he said that it is the duty of all peace lovers to spread the message of communal harmony across the state.

Dr B Srinivas Kakkilaya of the committee said that as assembly elections are nearing, all the incidents are being given “communal colours”. “The society is being divided on the lines of religion. Several incidents have taken place in the coastal district in the last seven months. However, the educated have chosen to remain silent. The programme aims at instilling confidence in people to face communal forces,” he said.

Wilfred D’Souza of the Committee said that around 8 lakh to 10 lakh people are likely to join the cause across the state. Nidumamidi Veerabhadra Swami, Supreme Court retired judge V Gopal Gowda, writers Baragooru Ramachandrappa, Chandrashekar Patil, Dr G Ramakrishna, High Court retired judge H N Nagamohan Das and thinker K Channabasappa will take part.
