Mangalore, Feb 16, 2014: A flower show organized at Kadri Park to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of the Department of Horticulture was inaugurated by DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai on February 15, Saturday.
In his address, Rai said the state government has been promoting the farm sector through various schemes keeping in mind the best interests of the farming community. He was also appreciative of the efforts being made by the Department of Horticulture. He further urged the farmers to prefer organic fertilizers as against chemical fertilizers.
JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South presided over the function. He said such flower shows go a long way in encouraging people to grow plants.
A model of Tulunad’s rural sport “Kambala” which was made using as many as 10,000 red roses and ferns was the star attraction of the event. Even the model of a camel made of flowers and creepers won appreciation.
Moidin Bava, MLA of Mangalore North, Rithesh Kumar Shetty, ZP Vice President, Roopa D Bangera, Corporator, Yogesh HT, Deputy Director of Department of Horticulture and others were present.
