Sullia, Feb 18, 2016: In a case of exemplary honesty, a woman from Mavinakatte near Sullia returned a gold chain worth nearly Rs 1.7 lakh which she found on the roadside, to its rightful owner.
The woman named Pushpavathi, who hails from a middle-class family saw the heavy and attractive gold chain on the road while she was on way to a local shop on February 17, Wednesday.
She immediately picked it up and headed towards a local jewellery shop to ascertain if it was gold or imitation jewellery. When the jeweller confirmed that it was gold and was worth Rs 1.7 lakh, Pushpavathi with great presence of mind approached the local police station and handed over the chain to them.
Incidentally, the rightful owner of the chain Zarina Begum who had somehow lost the chain while she was on way to a function, had approached the same station. The police immediately summoned Zarina who was delighted and equally moved by the honesty of Pushpavathi. She expressed her immense gratitude to Pushpavathi . Perhaps the two women belonging to different faiths would always remember each other.
