Home minister inaugurates Sharada First Grade College

Mangalore, July 10: Home Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya inaugurated Sharada First Grade College established by the Tulunad Education Trust on July 10, Saturday. In his inaugural address, the home minister urged the college authorities to provide not only the education prescribed in their syllabus, but also the value and general education required for building a strong nation.

Declaring that Karnataka held the number-one position in quality education, he said that the state requires more donors to help the government establish more schools and colleges so that it can maintain its status. He also said that the government has earmarked Rs. 10,500 crore for education in the budget because the state needs to excel in education. He also urged the management to provide extra curricular activities such as value education, singing, dance, and Yoga. The home minister also released the prospectus of the college.

Prof Shivashankar Murthy, the vice chancellor of the Mangalore University, was the chief guest of the event. He said that efforts should be made to bring the level of higher education to 20 percent in the following decade by establishing 800 universities and 35,000 colleges. The university has already approved the establishment of 14 new colleges in Mangalore; and experts will inspect the campuses and submit reports to the government, he said and added that Sharada First Grade College is among the eight government-approved colleges. He expressed his regrets that the health and education sector is now becoming commercialized. 

In his benedictory speech, Shri Vishweshateertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt said that students must not only develop faith in God, but must also find God in every person. Krishna J. Palemar, the district-in-charge minister welcomed the gathering.

MLA Yogesh Bhat, Dr. P. Ananthkrishna Bhat, Mayor Rajani Dugganna, Sudhakar Rao Pejawar, Captain Ganesh Karnik, Raghavendra Bhat, Kajampady Subrahmanya Bhat, M. S. Shastri, and Krishna Murthy were the dignitaries on the dais.
