The convict will have to undergo an additional one year imprisonment if he fails to pay the Rs 90,000 compensation to the parents of the deceased as ordered by the court.
Both the deceased Sanjay as well as Ashrith who is now proved guilty knew each other but were nursing a grudge over a past issue. On May 22, 2014 was Sanjay’s birthday and he had been to Hoigebail along with two of his friends to invite another friend for his birthday. It was at this juncture Ashrith arrived there, picked up a quarrel and stabbed Sanjay to death.
It is believed that this murder was in retaliation to an incident that took place a month prior to that wherein Ashrith had fought with Sanjay’s friends Jayaprakash and Chinna at Kudroli and had inflicted burn injuries on their faces with cigarette butt. This had led to the quarrel between the two on May 22 eventually culminating in the murder.
