Hiriadka, Jan 3, 2014: A leopard which had trespassed into human habitat in search of a prey, died after falling into a trap laid for a wild boar at a place called Kudigrama near here on January 2, Thursday morning.
It is learnt, the leopard aged around eight years had fallen into the wired trap laid in the land owned by one Babu Naika. However, the occupants of the house came to know that a leopard had been trapped instead of a boar only on Thursday morning. As the wire was tightened around its waist the animal was moaning with pain.
The Forest Department was immediately informed and they rescued the leopard from the trap and informed the veterinarians from Pilikula in Mangalore. However by the time anaesthetists could arrive, the big cat had breathed its last.
Hundreds of people rushed to the spot to catch a glimpse of the wild animal which had caused panic among locals since some time. Forest officials said the animal has not sustained any injuries by the tightening of the trap wire around its waist led to its death. The animal was later cremated at the Panchanabettu reserve forest area nearby.
This is so sad to hear. People should be educated in this field!!
