Hindu families which protected Christians during Tipu regime honoured

Mangaluru, Nov 29, 2018: The sacrifices made by three  Hindu families whose ancestors protected Christian families decades ago during the regime of Tipu Sultan  were remembered by honouring members of the families during the  annual feast of the Our Lady of Remedies Church, Kirem. The felicitation function was held in accordance to a custom that is being followed since long.

 

Guttinar Balakrishna Shetty and  Shambhu Shetty of Elinje  Angadi Guttu,  Jayapala Shetty  of Aikalabava Guttu, Dinesh Shetty and Sukumar Shetty of Talippady Guttu were felicitated on the occasion.  Three plants were also handed over to them in order to create awareness on environment. As per the custom, banana bunch and betel leaves were handed over to the Hindu families by Mangaluru Diocese Bishop Rev. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.

Fr Victor D’Mello, Parish Priest of Kirem Church,  Fr Jayaprakash, Assistant Parish Priest and others were present.
