Hindu activists accuse newspaper of publishing false news; burn copies

 Mangalore, Jan 4, 2014: A report carried by a local newspaper  regarding the alleged  attempt  to rape a woman  while on her way home after a New Year party, triggered angry protests by members  of a Hindu organisation who burnt several bundles of the daily on January 3, Friday.

fire 1The newspaper copies were set on fire near the paper stalls at Bejai, Balmatta, Kankanady and Lady Goschen.

The Editor of the newspaper has however said the news was authentic and was published after verifying the facts.

Meanwhile, Mangalore Police Commissioner R Hithendra while addressing press persons on Friday said four persons have been apprehended in connection with the assault. He also informed that the police are also looking into another angle of the story which has been published in a daily.
