Mangalore Jan 13, 2016: Helmets have been mandatory for pillion riders in the city, which led to a high demand for the helmet dealers, which effected in the city on Tuesday. State government has taken certain measures and enforced compulsory helmets for the pillion riders.
According to the helmet dealers there has drastic demand in helmets after this notification came in to force. It is estimated that there will be requirement of 60 lakhs helmet for the pillion riders, as there is a possibility of helmet scarcity in the state.
City police and transport officials initially warned motorist who carry pillion riders without helmet, this has become mandatory in the city and will enforce it. Quality of the helmet is checked which will be provided for the children, after the meet with helmet dealers, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Shantha Kumar.
Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.A. Saleem said that every motorist need to be aware of the rule. Now, it is time for education. After Jan 20, violators are penalized. All pillion riders will be expected to wear ISI certified helmets, failing which, they will be fined Rs. 100 for the first time, he added.
