High court orders suspension of Dakshina Kannada SP and two police officials

Bangalore, Jul 30: The Karnataka high court suspended the Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada, Dr Sharanappa on July 30, 2014. Beltangady Circle inspector Lingappa Poojary and another police official are also been suspended.

The order issued in a case related to the construction of a temple at Ujire. High Court directed the chief secretary of the state home department to suspend SP Dr Sharanappa,  Lingappa Poojary, the Beltangady circle inspector and also one more police officer who had investigated the case.

 

The construction of  Shree Kshetra Kunjarpa temple at Ujire by Mahesh Thimarody of  Praja Prabhutva Vedike was objected by the complainants, Shashikala Shetty and her husband Taranath Shetty, who filed a case stating that the temple was illegally being built on a private land. It is learnt that  a committee had been formed earlier to undertake the temple construction, where Mahabala Shetty (Father of  Shashikala) headed the committee. After the death of Mahabala Shetty who passed away few months ago, Mahesh Thimarody was appointed as head of the committee.

A petition was filed by Taranath Shetty’s wife, Shashikala in the Karnataka High Court against Beltangady police department for failing to take quick action pertaining to the case.  The High Court had summoned Dakshina Kannada SP and also police officials from Beltangady police department to appear in the court on 30 July 2014.  Both the SP and other police officials failed to show up in the court, as a result the judge decided to pass an order to suspend them, reveal sources.
