Hi-tension electric pole on mid-road stands mute testimony to MESCOM apathy

Karkala, Feb 24, 2014 :  Here is a classic case of the lackadaisical approach of MESCOM authorities.  A hi-tension electric pole right on the middle of a newly laid road at Kukkundur Jayanthi Nagar  stands as a mute testimony to the apathy of the authorities.

Though as per rules, the MESCOM ought to have shifted this electric pole before the road works commenced, it  decided against it as it was a laborious task as it was a hi-tension pole. The MESCOM, it is learnt, also paid no heed to the directive of the local panchayat to shift the pole. The result of all this is  that the pole still stands royally right  on mid-road least bothered  about the hazards it posed to motorists.

The Panchayat President who has  come down heavily on the MESCOM, has said the MESCOM will be responsible for any eventuality due to the presence of the pole on the middle of the road.

The road  was asphalted just 15 days ago with the help of the Rs 2 lakh grant sanctioned during the chief ministership of DV Sadananda Gowda. It is learnt, the contractor completed the work in a haste as otherwise the work may be further delayed in case the election notification was announced.
