Mangaluru, Nov 15, 2018: DK Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Nov 14, Wednesday informed that all vehicles, including heavy vehicles like trucks, lorries and tankers will be allowed on the Shiradi Ghat stretch from today Nov 14, Thursday morning .
With this, the ban on the movement of vehicles on the stretch for the last 90 days has ended. With the closure of Shiradi Ghat, heavy vehicles were travelling via Kalasa-Kudremukh road. A few of the goods laden lorries were using the Charmadi Ghat stretch to reach Mangaluru.
The Shiradi Ghat was closed for all kinds of vehicles from August 14, following massive landslides at multiple locations due to torrential rains.
After the landslides were cleared, the stretch was reopened to light motor vehicles like cars, jeep, two-wheelers and maxi cabs from September 5 and buses including multi-axle buses from October 3.
The DCs of both districts had held discussions and announced that Shiradi Ghat is fit for the movement of heavy vehicles from November 15.
However, PWD and district incharge minister H D Revanna said in Hassan that he has not received any information.
“If the National Highways Authority of India certifies that the road is fit for traffic, I have no objection,” he said.
