Heavy rains disrupt normal life in twin districts

Mangalore, August 2, 2011: The heavy rains that lashed against the twin districts continued on Tuesday, disrupting normal life. Houses and fields were destroyed in strong winds all over the district.

A house in Kandak in Mangalore collapsed early this morning, causing a financial loss of Rs. 50,000 to the owner.

The monsoon skies are heavily overcast, and the resulting downpour led to artificial flooding in several parts of the city, causing untold misery to the residents.

Several small vehicles were unable to proceed for hours because the streets were flooded with rainwater.


House completely damaged in rain

A house located behind the DC’s office was completely damaged in the rain on Aug 2 Tuesday at 2:30 a.m. The estimated financial loss to the owner Susheela is expected to be Rs. 1 lakh.

The neighbor’s house as well as the MESCOM meter box was damaged when the wall of Susheela’s house collapsed in the rain. Incessant rain which has been lashing Mangalore district since Monday continued on Tuesday. Several low-lying areas in the city were inundated.
