Mangalore, June 12, 2013 : Heavy rains that have been lashing various parts of the district including Mangalore has disrupted normal life. The rains have also caused extensive damage to properties at various places.
As many as 150 arecanut trees of three growers in Kattattila of Salettur in Vittal have been damaged due to heavy winds.
In Mangalore, the heavy rains resulted in artificial floods on Kavoor-Kulur Road resulting in rain water gushing into some houses. The landslide at Kunjathbail has damaged one house completely, while another house in danger.
In Brahmarakootlu of Brahmavar, a roadside embankment has collapsed due to rains. Arecanut plantations near Bajpe too have been damaged.
Dangerous electricity cables: Several rural areas of the district are facing problems due to low lying and snapped electricity cables during rains. A tree has rolled onto a house near Lotus Park, Hosabettu snapping electricity cables. Several electric poles have landed on the ground at Soorinje, Chokkabettu of Suratkal, near Kerekaru of Kinnigoli and also at Athonykatte in Bajpe.
A 25 feet deep ditch, a virtual death trap has been formed on the interior road at Malady near Kottara Chowki due to disorderly pipeline works under KUDCEMP project. The crater right on the middle of the road, has posed imminent danger to motorists as well as pedestrians.
