Health officials raid unauthorised clinics and laboratories in Udupi district

Udupi, December 17, 2023: The Health and Family Welfare Department, along with taluk-level authorities, conducted raids on unauthorized clinics and laboratories in Udupi district under the Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act. Some of these facilities were closed, and cases were filed against others during the week.

Responding to complaints about quacks and unauthorized laboratories in the district, the department took action to shut down such establishments, as per an official release.

A team from Udupi taluk inspected Dhanvantari Clinic in Adi Udupi and discovered that A.R. Acharya was practicing Allopathy alongside Ayurveda, for which he had the necessary license and registration. A case was filed against Dr. Acharya by the team.

Another clinic in Aururu in the taluk was raided, where it was found that Sandesh Rao was operating without any technical expertise or license. The team not only filed a case against him but also closed the clinic.

In Byndoor taluk, the Kundapura health department team found that Prajith S. Nambiyar was practicing Allopathy despite having a license and registration for Ayurveda in Navunda. A case was filed against Dr. Nambiyar.

Sushma Clinical Lab in Uppunda, Byndoor taluk, was raided, and it was discovered that Latha Sunil K was operating the lab without a license. A case was filed, and the laboratory was closed. Similarly, Biolin Lab in Kundapura was found to be operated by an individual without a registration certificate, leading to the filing of an FIR against the owners.

The Health and Family Welfare Department has urged the general public not to seek services from unregistered medical practitioners or laboratories. Anyone with information about quacks (fake medical practitioners) is encouraged to inform the district health and family welfare office at 0820-2525566/2536650.
