Health Minister Khader visits Wenlock Hospital; asks staff to be compassionate

Mangalore, June 16, 2013: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare UT Khader visited the Wenlock Hospital in Mangalore on June 15, Saturday and inspected the conditions of the hospital.

Khader also interacted with the medical officers and other staff of the hospital and urged them to treat patients with compassion. He also stressed the need to attach importance to cleanliness and hygiene.

Mamatha Gatti, Zilla Panchayat Member who was present, drew the attention of the minister towards the ineffective implementation of Madilu Yojane wherein free kit is provided to pregnant women.

A Dalit Rights Committee Member Lingappa Nanthur told the minister that a poor woman named Baby (27) had died on June 13 due to negligence of doctors and there were no proper oxygen ventilators. He explained how the patient’s family was asked to get 38 bottles of blood and even prescribed medicines worth Rs 35000 but of no avail.

Reacting to this, the minister asked the authorities concerned to reimburse the Rs 35000 to the family of Baby.

The Minister also said an appeal would be made to the Chief Minister to sanction funds for provision of infrastructure to the hospital.

Madan Gopal, Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, was also present.
