Mangalore, Feb 24, 2014 : He was once a dacoit in the notorious Chambal valley, but today a messenger of peace, love and harmony.

Pancham Singh 1

The man, Pancham Singh who is now in the twilight of his life is on a noble mission  of  propagating moral values in the society. His mission is aided by the Prajapita Brahmakumari Eshwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya. Singh who was in the city on February 23, as part of his mission, visited the Eshwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya office at Urva Stores where he narrated his experiences.

He recollected his bloody  past when he  got 12 persons killed with assistance from dacoits for attacking him during Gram Panchayat elections in 1958. He says his gang was so notorious that it carried a reward of Rs 2 crores on its head four decades ago.

Singh says he was greatly influenced by the ideals of Jayaprakash Narayan and surrendered  during the Indira Gandhi regime in 1972. He says his gang was involved in 250 cases including 100 cases of murders and that he was  sentenced to death. But the sentence was commuted to life imprisonment later on, he recalls.

He says he was  a changed man due to the preachings of Brahmakumaris who used to visit jails at times and his good conduct helped in his release in 1980.

Since then Pancham Singh has been on a peace mission.
