Mangalore, Jul 7, 2013: The revised syllabus of the Kannada text book for first year B.Com of Mangalore University will have a lesson on the inspiring life of Harekala Hajabba, who went on to set up a school in his hometown of Harekala. The lesson is adopted from the Kannada work ‘Harekala Hajabbara Jeevana Charitre’ by Ismat Pajeer.
The revision of syllabus for Kannada and optional language subjects taught in first year under graduation courses was approved by the Academic Council of Mangalore University at a special meeting held on July 6, Saturday.
Harekala Hajabba’s saga of struggle and success is already a part of the Kannada Text book of students of Davangere and Shimoga universities.
Vice-Chancellor T.C. Shivashankara Murthy said poems, dramas, short stories, and excerpts of novels by writers such as M. Gopalkrishna Adiga, M. Vijaybhanu Shetty, B.A. Vivek Rai, S.V. Parameshwar Bhatta, and Na. D’Souza apart from works of renowned poets of the past like Ranna, Pampa, Kuvempu and M Govinda Pai will find space in the text books.
He said that 11 textbooks have been prepared by the Kannada Board of Study.
Chief Editor of Kannada textbooks Dr Abhaykumar and Member Dr Sathyaranarayana Mallipattana said the editorial board collects best of all forms of literature.
The Academic Council also agreed to sanction additional 10 seats for MSc Chemistry course at St Agnes College, Mangalore with a condition for fulfilling the requirement.
Registrar Dr Yadapadithaya, Registrar (Evaluation) Dr B Narayana and Finance Officer Dr Pakeerappa were present at the meeting.
