Hampankatta gets cleaned in round 2 of Swacchata Abhiyan

Mangaluru, Nov 13, 2017: Swacchata Abhiyan round 2  of 40 weeks by Ramakrishna  Mission in city took up Hampankatta area; after prayers at 7.30 am on Nov 12, Sunday, the Abhiyan was flagged off by Smt. Bharathi Shetty, Former MLC and Smt. Tejaswini Gowda, Former MP in the  presence of Swami Jitakamanandaji, President of Mangalore Ramakrishna Math.

Smt. Tejaswini Gowda shared a few words with the volunteers and motivated them by declaring that they are really into the Nation building task and they should carry on this mission in spite of all challenges. Smt. Bharathi Shetty said, “Realizing the dream of Swacch Bharath is every citizens responsibility and the guidance and leadership provided is commendable.”

Captain Ganesh Karnik, Chief Whip of Opposition delivered an address. Flagging off was followed by Swami Jitakamanandaji and guests volunteering themselves with brooms to clean the streets. Volunteers organized themselves into 6 groups under the guidance of Sri Dilraj Alva. Sri Vittaldas Prabhu and Sri Kodange Balakrishna Naik led the members of Nivedita Balaga in cleaning the area and road, footpath in front of University College, Hampankatta.

University College compound was adorned with beautiful  painting depicting rich cultural heritage of Dakshina Kannada. The walls were covered with  moss due to rains in the monsoon season. Members of Hindu Warriors under guidance of Sri Satish Moodigere cleaned the walls by washing with water and brush. The compound wall in front of Wenlock hospital were also cleaned by the young members of Amba Maheshwari  Bhajana Mandira led by Sri Umanath Kotekar. Students of S Madhusdan Kushe Highschool and volunteers from Scouts & guides under the guidance of Sri Prathim Kumar went to each and every shop in the region distributing handbills  on awareness and hygiene.  Dr Rajendra Prasad, Sri Shivakumar CA, Sri K V Sathyanarayana and nearly 150 volunteers actively participated in the drive. 

Ramakrishna Mission with the cooperation from DK Zilla Panchayat carried out Swacch Dakshina Kannada Abhiyan in nearly 50 villages of D K Dist. Equipments for cleanliness drives, T Shirts, banners etc. were given to all the volunteers in the villages. They were also provided with refreshments.
