Hairdresser sentenced to life for co-worker’s murder

Mangaluru, Oct 13, 2018: The 3rd Additional District and Sessions judge B. Muralidhara Pai on Friday sentenced 31-year-old Pradeep Kumar, a hairdresser, to life for murdering his co-worker Rudramuni, 26, in a room in Kutthar, near Thokkottu, on December 31, 2016.

arrestAccording to the chargesheet, Pradeep Kumar, a native of Shikaripur and Rudramuni, a native of Ballari district, were working in Mamata Men’s Beauty Parlour in Sangathi complex in Kutthar. The two were living in a room of the parlour owner Ramesh K. on the third floor of the same complex.

Kumar had frequent fights with Rudramuni over the latter talking to a girl he was interested in. On December 31 night, Kumar had a fight with Rudramuni in the presence of two fellow employees of the parlour.

Though the two were pacified and separated by the rest, Kumar suddenly took a knife and stabbed Rudramuni on his chest. He was rushed to Yenepoya Hospital in Deralakatte where Rudramuni died.

On a complaint by Ramesh, the Ullal police arrested Kumar and later filed chargesheet accusing him of offence under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code.

Prosecutor Narayan Sherigar examined before the court 22 witnesses, including parlour owner Ramesh. Among other witnesses were forensic expert Vijayalakshmi, who had examined the blood stains of the deceased on the t-shirt and shorts worn by Kumar.
