Mangalore, June 21, 2014: Karnataka High Court Judge Justice K Bhakthavatsala laid the foundation for the quarters of Principal District and Sessions Judge and judicial officers at Hat Hill in the city on June 21, Saturday.
State Minister for Forest B Ramanatha Rai, MLA JR Lobo, District and Sessions Judge Uma MG, former mayor Shashidhar Hegde, PWD Executive Engineer Gopal Naik and others graced the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Justice Bhakthavatsala said the project is estimated to cost Rs 135 lakhs and added the works would commence soon after monsoons and will be completed in a year.
The judicial officers’ quarters will be constructed in two blocks. While A block will have 12 flats, the B block will have 16 flats and would cost Rs 8.2 lakhs and Rs 10 lakhs respectively.
He also informed that the Moodbidri Court building and quarters will be inaugurated shortly.
Praveen Chandra Alva, Corporator, Ashok Ariga, President of District Bar Association and others were present.
Legal Aid Clinic : Justice Bhakthavatsala also inaugurated a legal aid clinic organised at the District Court premises on Saturday. The camp was organised by the District Bar Association and District Legal Service Authority.
In his address, Justice Bhakthavatsala said the clinic will cater to the needs of those who cannot afford lawyers and will offer free legal service to them.
