Mangaluru, June 06, 2020: The works of Gurupur bridge built across Phalguni river, are complete. The project was supposed to be completed in February. But some land acquisition related issues and some technical issues resulted in the delay.
Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel had laid foundation for this project in February last year. The cost of the bridge is estimated at Rs 39.4 crores.
The bridge connects with Karkala, and sees heavy vehicular movement. It is situated about 17 km away from the city.
The new bridge was proposed after the district administration found that the bridge built in 1923, across the Phalguni river, which was called the Gurupur Bridge, was in a dilapidated state, and posed a hazard for those using it. The old bridge was 4.5 metres wide, and the bottom of the bridge is rusted.
