Group decides to boycott ZP, TP Polls

Mangalore Today News Network

Puttur, Feb 6, 2016: As per reports, a group of people living adjacent to Charvaka Dolpady Edamangala Nanila Gujjarme Road have decided to boycott the taluk and zilla panchayat elections as the road has not been repaired for the last several years.

pollsA representative said the pathetic conditions of the road was brought to the notice of elected representatives during all the elections.

A memorandum was submitted after the election. However, neither the elected representatives nor the officials have responded to our woes.

Also, surface of the road has lifted off and vehicle users find it difficult to travel on the stretch. The students and the villagers have a tough time in reaching their schools and work places. They have decided to boycott the election due to the negligence of the officials and elected representatives.

The Charvaka-Edamangala Road has not seen asphaltation for the last 17 years. Though a patch work was taken up, it was not completed. A bus plying on the stretch for the last six years has stopped its service from monsoon. As a result, the people have been deprived of basic facilities, including transport, they alleged.

The villagers said the road should be upgraded as the PWD road if the zilla panchayat does not have funds to repair it. The road actually reduces the distance to Kadaba. With the deplorable condition of the road, the villagers have to use a longer route through Ninthikallu-Alekadi to reach Kadaba.

As Kadaba is a revenue centre for the villages of Savanur, Kaniyur and Charvaka, they have been using Charvaka-Dolpady Edamangala- Nanila Gujjarme Road to reach Kadaba. The Charvaka -Edamangala Road also connects Edamangala railway station. As there are several temples nearby, a large number of devotees are using the stretch. Nowadays, the number of devotees visiting the temples has come down due to pathetic condition of the road, the villagers charged.

They villagers said the politicians visit them during the election, promise about a good road and do not turn up later. "When this is the case, why should we vote for these so called leaders?" they have said.

The people have to get united and not make an attempt to vote. The leader is the one who understands the difficulty and comes forward to solve it. But in case there is no effort at all. Only bothered about themseves
