Mangaluru, April 29, 2020: In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown imposed in the country since 23rd March 2020, certain segment of people have been facing financial crisis and shortage of grocery required for their daily needs. New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) realising the problems faced by the common man due to lockdown and as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), NMPT has decided to distribute 6000 no’s of grocery kits to the needy people in and around of Surathkal and Panambur to coastal community in the areas of Baikampady, Thannirbavi, Hosabettu, Kulai and to the daily wage labourers, migrant workers & needy people. The Grocery items/kits are also being given to Sri. Nandaneshwara Temple Committee which has been distributing foods to needy people in the nearby areas.
The grocery kits distributions commenced from today i.e 28.04.2020 at 11:00 am in presence of Shri Nalin Kumar Kateel Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Dr. Bharath Shetty, MLA, Shri A.V. Ramana, Chairman, NMPT, Shri. K.G.Nath, Dy.Chairman, NMPT and Shri. Diwakar Pandeshwar, Mayor, MCC, Mangalore. Each grocery Kit consists of 6 Kgs of Gidda Boiled Rice, 1 Kg Toor Dal and 200 gms of lemon pickle. These grocery kits are being distributed to the needy people of the society as a social responsibility towards the neighbouring society.
In addition to the above, NMPT has contributed to the PM CARES Fund to strengthen the Union Governments, resources to counter the threat of COVID-19. A sum of Rs.4.3 Crores has been contributed to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation (PM CARES) Fund on 04th April 2020. The employee of the Port have to contribute one day’s wages from their monthly salary for the month of April 2020 and the balance amount is contributed from the Port’s General Fund / CSR Fund. The NMPT has been instrumental in helping the society in times of distress and always emphasised on betterment of the society.
