Greens say a firm ‘No’ to Yettinahole, Niddodi projects

Mangaluru, Feb 21, 2015 : At an interaction programme held  at Radhakrishna Hall in the city on February 20, Friday, the NGO Okkoota has come down heavily against implementation of Yettinahole, Niddodi projects and the PCPIR project.

Okkoota Member Kateel Dinesh Pai who spoke at the meeting said  PCPIR would hit hard the people of the district and will pose health hazards while also  taking its toll on environment. He said the project which would require  huge tracts of land and  will  also require large quantities of water and power supply too. He even pointed out that land from Talapady to Udupi measuring 73000 acre has been identified for the same.

He lashed out at the government for trying to implement such projects at the cost of the health of the people.

On the Yettinahole project, he said the project aims at not just supplying water for drinking purposes, but also for industrial requirements at the cost of the people of the Dakshina Kannada district.

He also expressed strong opposition to the plans to implement Niddodi ultra mega thermal power project.

Shashidhar Shetty, environmental activists, Vasudeva Bolur, fishermen leader  and many others spoke at the meeting.
