Udupi, July 28, 2013: State Urban Development Minister and Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinaykumar Sorake has said that the state government has said a sum of Rs 50 crore has been sanctioned for the development of Hejamady Port.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the Port, Sorake said the break water works would be taken up initially. He said the project which required a total of Rs 100 crore will be executed by the CITF. He said the State Government was keen on development of ports and promised that it will fulfill the longstanding demand for the development of Hejamady Port.
The Government will be providing Rs 30 crores for laying of fisheries roads instead of the earlier Rs 6 crores, the Minister said adding the housing loan for fishermen has also been increased from Rs 60,000 to Rs 1.2 lakhs.
He said a sum of Rs 275 crores has been earmarked in the budget for sea walls at Tenka Yermal, Hejamady, Uliyargoli, Udyavar and Padubidri in Udupi district.
The minister also visited the UPCL plant. On the complaints that the UPCL break water had led to sea erosion in Tenka Yermal, the minister sought a report from the officials and assured that the break water would be removed if the allegation was proved.
