Udupi, July 13, 2015 : Speaking after inaugurai  of  rural sports fest, ‘Kesrad Onji Dina’ (A day in slushy waters), organised by the district administration, the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports and Ganeshotsava Samiti at Alevoor,  Vinay Kumar Sorake, Urban Development Minister, July 12 said,  that the government was promoting rural sports in the State.  He said that traditional and rural sports were rooted in the soil of the country.


Govt. giving importance to ’rural sports’


Minister Sorake said that the younger generation had to be told about the importance of rural and traditional sports. The buffalo races or Kambala, held in rural areas of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada, were as popular as any modern sport. 

Roshan Kumar Shetty, Assistant Director of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, said that the government had allocated Rs. 1.5 lakh for promoting rural sports in every taluk.

Srikanth Nayak, president of Alevoor Gram Panchayat, Praveen Shetty, taluk panchayat member, A. Rakshith Shetty, film actor and director, A. Sridhar Shetty, president of KCA Bank, and Manjesh Kumar, president of Ganeshotsava Samiti, were present among a large number of participants .
