Govt ban on Maruti Omni ambulances land owners in distress

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, June 3,2017 : With the state government banning  use of Maruti Omni vehicles as ambulances many  ambulance drivers are left in the lurch. Though the existing Maruti  Omni  ambulances can continue their service their licenses are unlikely to be renewed once the term expires. Moreover no new Maruti Omnis will be registered as  ambulances.

Maruti OmniThough the  Government has issued an order to this effect on May 10 itself, a copy of the order had reached the RTO office only recently. The matter however came to light when a  person had been to the RTO office to renew his vehicle registration.

It is believed that the government ruling will hit hard  as many as 180 Maruti Omni owners who are using their vehicles as ambulances. The state government has issued this order as per the recommendation of Department of Health and Family Welfare, Ayush Department and  Road Transport and Highway Department on the grounds that the vehicle gets frequently  involved in accidents and moreover  do not have enough space to place necessary equipment.

"Maruti Omnis are not being registered following government order. Even the renewal of registration  of Omnis that apply for annual fitness certificates has been stopped, informed GS Hegde, RTO.
