Govt aims at fair, user-friendly tax policy : Ajay Seth, Commercial Tax Commissioner

Mangalore, May 28, 2014:  Ajay Seth, Commissioner of Commercial Taxes of Karnataka  said the government aims to make the tax policy fair and user friendly rather than hinder trader activities.

He was participating in an interactive session on ‘E-Governance initiatives – Recent Developments under K-Vat Act’ (online uploading of purchase and sales statements), under the joint aegis of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) and  Institute of Charted Accountants of India (ICAI), Mangalore  on May 28, Wednesday.


Referring to the notion that tax policies are rigid, he said they are framed keeping in mind the less than 20 per cent traders who try to evade tax.

Stating that the government was making all possible moves towards simplification of tax policy, Ajith also referred to the E-Governance initiative and touched upon several  online services like e-payment,  E-Sugam etc.

He further informed that the Goods and Service Tax which is considered the biggest Taxation reforms in the nation will be ready by April next year and that all states have  agreed to implement it.

He further informed that all indirect taxes on goods and services both by the Union and State Governments, will be replaced by GST. The tax burden would be  equitably shared between manufacturing and services, he said.

 Shyamala Shenoy, chairperson, Mangalore branch of ICAI, M Ganesh Bhat, Ram Mohan Pai Maroor, Nanda Gopal Shenoy and others were present.
