Mangaluru, Nov 10, 2014: The Two Hovercrafts aimed at strengthening the Coast Guard surveillance in the region, were commissioned at Panambur on November 10, Monday By State Governor Vajubhai Vala.The Air cushion Vehicles H-196 and H-198 had arrived at Panambur recently.
In his address the Governor said the Commissioning of the Hovercrafts would go a long way in mitigating threats to the coastline and also in putting a brake to terror activities. He also added that the Hovercrafts are fully armed with weapons like Light Machine Gun, Close Quarter Battle Weapon as well as personal weapons including 9 mm Pistol to assist the Coast Guards in their operation.
The Governor further said the people must always remember the services and the sacrifices made by the security personnel who risk their own lives to ensure the safety of the people.
Rajmani Sharma, Coast Guard Officer, A.B. Ibrahim, Deputy Commissioner, R Hithendra, Mangalore Polcie Commissioner, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP and others were present at the function.
The Governor was earlier given a ceremonial guard of honour on his arrival at the venue.
