Mangalore, Oct 22, 2014: The Shree Gokarnanatha Temple at Kudroli which attracted a sea of devotees during the recent Mangalore Dasara celebrations, on October 21, Tuesday evening saw a number of enthusiasts at the Temple premises watching with awe and amaze the splendid array of colourful Goodu Deepas in varied colours and shapes that added a Sparkle to the Diwali celebrations. The event was the Goodu Deepa Pantha (Contest) the annual contest organised by Namma Kudla, the popular local TV channel.
City Mayor Mahabala Maarla inaugurated the contest and appreciated the enthusiasm of Namma Kudla in organising the event annually.
Anand K, Associate Vice President of Udayavani, H S Sairam, President, Kudroli Temple Committee,Raghavendra Kulur, BG Suvarna, and others of the Temple Management, Damodar Nisarga, Bhasker Rai Kukkuvalli, BP Karkera, President of Namma Kudla, Harish B Karkera, Leelaksha B Karkera, Suresh B Karkera and several others were present.
The contest was held in three categories viz traditional, modern and special. The first three winners in all the three categories were awarded gold medals apart from mementoes and certificates.
A Goodudeepa made with the help of 18400 buttons by Vignesh and another made of beedies by a student named Yogita attracted many.
