Mangalore, April 6, 2014: The DRI officials at Mangalore International Airport seize 3.200 Kilo Grams of Gold valued at Rs.93,63,389/- on Sunday, 6-4-2014  from two passengers arrived  here by Air India Express Flight from Dubai.


The passengers had escaped customs scrutiny and was on their way out. However, the DRI officers at Mangalore International Airport on tip off seized Gold wires and pieces of gold biscuits totally weighing 3.2 Kilo Grams valued at Rs.93,63,389/-  by way of Non-declaration and concealment in the baggage from two passenger.

The gold was hidden in a Popcorn machine, a Car sterio and a Digital steamer. The passenger is identified as Abdul Nisar and his cousin Fousia, a resident of Kumbala, Kerala, who had arrived at Mangalore International Airport on Sunday evening, April 6, 2014 at 07-30 AM by Air India Express Flight IX814 from Dubai. A five year old Child also was also retained along with the above passengers. Both passengers were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

It is learned that in the similar way, earlier, passengers have tried to smuggle Gold but were caught by the DRI officials in Mangalore International Airport.
