He has two cases against him at the Udupi Town Police Station, one each in Manipal and Malpe police station. He was brought to the Udupi Town Station here as per procedure. Though Raja has several cases against him, he was extradited from Morocco to India for 16 cases.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Annamalai said that Raja was remanded to police custody till August 28 by the trail court of Karnataka Control of Organized Crime Act in Belagavi on August 14.

The Belagavi court had remanded him in custody in connection with the murder of businessman and BJP leader R.N. Nayak in Ankola in December 2013. Since he (Mr. Annamalai) was the Investigation Officer for the Nayak case, he was brought to Udupi, Mr. Annamalai said.

Sources in the police department here said that Raja was mainly extradited in the Nayak murder case. Raja would be lodged in an undisclosed location in the district for the next 15 days. Raja was brought to Udupi in connection with four cases.

“We can try him for these 16 cases. In those 16 cases, there are four cases against him in Udupi district. All the four cases selected from Udupi district were those where the evidential value is slightly high,” sources added.
