Sullia, June 14, 2014: Subrahmanya police have succeeded in busting a gang of thieves which used to target devotees in temple premises and rob valuables. Five persons belonging to the gang have been arrested and jewels worth Rs 6 lakhs have been seized from them.
All the arrested hail from Bhadravathi in Shimoga district and have been identified as Nagaraj (23), Hanumant (27), Manoharan (59) Durga (23) and Susheela (26). All of them have been produced before the court. While one of them is in police custody, the rest have been remanded to judicial custody.
It is learnt the five of them used to divert the attention of devotees and rob them of their jewels and valuables in the Subrahmanya Temple premises. The accused have reportedly admitted that they had sold the jewels in a shop at Bhadravathi and the same were recovered by the police.
Nagesh Kadri, Sub-Inspector of Subrahmanya led the operation which helped in arresting the thieves.
