Foundation laid for long awaited jetty at Sultan Bathery

Mangaluru, Jan 25, 2016:   Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes and State Minister for Fisheries K Abhayachandra Jain jointly laid the foundation for  a jetty at Sultan Bathery in Boloor on January 24, Sunday.  The project will cost Rs 5 crores and a 100 meter long jetty and a 300 meter long concrete road will be constructed in order to connect the main road to the jetty.

 

The project has been taken up  under the NABARD Rural Infrastructure Development Fund by the Fisheries Department .

Speaking on the occasion, State Minister Abhayachandra Jain  said the long  standing  demand for a jetty will be fulfilled soon. He said the work will commence from Monday as the tender has already been finalized.

 On this occasion, local  fishermen  submitted a memorandum to the minister with a request to sanction land to  take up dredging works and also to facilitate construction of a petrol bunk and an ice plant.

In his address, Oscar said the fishermen have rightfully placed the demand and added the positive response of Minister Jain was welcome.

MLA JR Lobo who also spoke,  said there were apprehensions regarding the proposed suspension bridge between Sultan Bathery and Tannirbavi and added the project has been delayed due to technical reasons. A sum of Rs. 7 crore has already been set aside for the project while another Rs  7 crore would be sanctioned, he added. He also stated that a meeting  is scheduled in Bengaluru on January 27 to discuss the design of the bridge.
