Mangaluru, April 8, 2015 : The Mahila Daurjanya Virodhi Vedike has taken up cudgels against the rising moral policing incidents as well as cases of atrocities on women in the district. On April 7 Tuesday, members of the Vedike wearing black dresses silently staged a protest at the Nehru Maidan.
Speaking on the occasion, eminent women’s activist Gulabi Bilimale said five cases of moral policing have been reported in the district in the month of March alone and described this as an alarming trend. She further stated that the government and the police too are to be equally blamed for the rise in such incidents and urged the government to deal with such incidents with a firm hand.
Vidya Dinker and many other women activists participated in the protest by displaying placards denouncing atrocities on women and moral policing incidents.
