Mangaluru, Jan 14, 2016: Acting on specific intelligence, officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Mangalore, intercepted Mohammed Aouf, 28, resident of Bhatkal and seized huge quantity of foreign currency notes of different countries.
Foreign currency seized include British Pounds, US Dollars, Euro, Australian Dollar, Saudi Riyals, UAE Dirham, Qatar Riyals, Oman Riyals and Kuwait Dinars.
The Indian rupee equivalent of currency so seized is Rs.81,67,110. Mohammed Aouf was attempting to smuggle the said foreign currency to Dubai (UAE) in Air India Flight IX 383 on January 14.
During interrogation, Mohammed Aouf admitted to the offence and further investigation is under progress. Officers of DRI have seized huge quantity of foreign currency attempted to be smuggled out by carriers through Bengaluru and Kochi airports recently.
In MIA so many cases of smuggling are filed but no cases stand as they fix some percentage and escape.
Good catch at MIA. A golden fish.
When there so much of security in the MIA why will they even think of smuggling to other countries?
