Fishing boat topples - brothers drown in Brahmavar river

Udupi, July 23, 2014: The two brothers drown after their boat capsized while fishing in Sita river at Harady near Brahmavar July 23. They are identified as Suresh Marakala (36) and Jayakara Marakala (30). Avinash(23), a nephew who had gone along was saved.

Suresh, Jayakar and Avinash had a habit of fishing in the river near their house regularly, due to a ban on fishing in the sea at present, they had gone in the boat as normal. An unexpected gush of wind capsized the boat. Suresh and Jayakar, were experienced swimmers but the storm caught them unawares. Avinash managed to reach the river bank. Suresh Marakala leaves behind his wife and year-old son. Jayakar was yet to be married.

Udupi fire brigade retrieved the bodies. Kundapur Asst. Commissioner Yogeshwar, Brahmavar tahsildar H K Thippeswamy, DSP Prabhudev Mane, Brahmavar police circle inspector Arun B Nayak, sub inspector Girish Kumar S and several others visited the spot and investigated the case.
