The owner of this fishing boat is Sarita D’Souza, the wife of Joseph D’Souza of Bajal. It set out on a fishing trip on Feb 28 and caught fire on the evening of Saturday owing to a spark that flew from the self-starter and spread to the diesel pipe. Fortunately, two other boats Shaun Peter and Yamuna Prasad, which were fishing in the vicinity, rushed to the rescue of the crew.

The crew of these two boats also attempted to extinguish the fire by spraying water from their boats. Later, the boats towed the burned boat toward the South Wharf, reaching their destination at 3:00 a.m. on March 6, Sunday.
