Financial misery forced man to commit suicide along with daughter in Mattu, Mulky

Mangaluru, 09 January 2016: Owing to constraint of money father two young girls committed suicide along with six year old daughter by jumping into Shambhavi river in Mattu near Mulky in Mangaluru taluk.

The incident came to light after their bodies were found floating in the waters on Saturday January 9 and Mulky police registered a case of unnatural death.

The deceased have been identified as Diwakar of Niddodi, aged 42, an electrician by profession and his daughter Dhriti who had admitted to schooling this year.

Diwakar tied his daughter Dhriti to his back with a piece of cloth and jumped into the Shambhavi river, sources said.

Diwakar was married to a woman from Mattu. He went missing along with his daughter on Friday January 8, and his wife, who thought he might have gone to Kundapur to visit relatives.

Family sources said that Diwakar has been entrusted his elder daughter to the care of his relatives.

Diwakar suffered heavy financial losses, which drove him to take this extreme step, locals opine.
