Father killed, son critical in road mishap at Karandakkad

Kasargod, Jan 1, 2015 : An elderly man lost his life while his son was seriously injured in a tragic road mishap reported from Karandakkad during the wee hours of January 1, Friday.

The deceased person is Prabhaker (60) from Malappuram. His son Sujesh (32) who was critically injured has been hospitalised. The mishap occurred at around 1.30 am when the father and son who worked for a jewellery shop in Uppala had boarded a goods lorry heading towards Kasargod from Uppala. The two had planned to catch a train from Kasargod to their native place.

However, tragedy struck when the father and son were alighting the lorry at Karandakkad. Another speeding lorry crashed against the goods lorry from the rear killing Prabhaker on the spot.

The impact of the collision was such that beer bottles stacked in the lorry rolled on to the road. It has been gathered that drivers of both the lorries had fled the scene of the mishap fearing public ire.

A case has been registered by Kasargod police.
